Hadith 1361

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو حَفْصٍ عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ ، عَنْ عُمَارَةَ ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ، قَالَ : قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ : لَا يَجْعَلَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ لِلشَّيْطَانِ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ جُزْءًا يَرَى أَنَّ حَتْمًا عَلَيْهِ أَنْ لَا يَنْصَرِفَ إِلَّا عَنْ يَمِينِهِ , لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " أَكْثَرَ انْصِرَافِهِ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ " .
´It was narrated that Al-Aswad said:` "Abdullah said: 'No one among you should allow the Shaitan to give him wrong ideas by making him believe that he can only leave after praying by moving to his right, because I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) usually departing to the left.'"

1361. Commentary: "Do not let Satan have a share in yourself." That is, to declare something non-obligatory as obligatory upon oneself is interference in the Shariah, following Satan, and opposition to the way of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). Thus, considering it necessary to turn from the right side is not correct. However, if someone, while considering it permissible to turn from either side, gives preference to the right side, then there is no harm.
