´It was narrated from 'Ata bin Abi Marwan, from his father, that:` Ka'b swore to him: "By Allah (SWT) Who parted the sea for Musa, we find in the Tawrah that when Dawud, the Prophet of Allah, finished his prayer, he would say: 'Allahumma Aslih li dinya-lladhi ja'altahu li ismatan wa aslih li dunyaya-llati ja'alta fiha ma'ashi, Allahumma inni a-udhu biridaka min sakhatik wa a-udhu bi'afwika min naqmatika wa a-udhu bika mink, la mani' lima a'taita wa la mu'tia lima mana'ta wa la yanfa'u dhal-jaddi minka al-jadd (O Allah, set straight my religious commitment that You have made a protection for me, and set straight my worldly affairs which You have made a means of my livelihood. O Allah, I seek refuge in Your pleasure from Your wrath, and I seek refuge in Your forgiveness from Your punishment, and I seek refuge in You from You. None can withhold what you have given and none can give what you have withheld, and no wealth or fortune can avail the man of wealth and fortune before You.)'" He said: "And Ka'b told me that Suhaib told him that Muhammad (ﷺ) used to say (these words) when he had finished praying.'"

1347. Commentary:
➊ Here, "Tawrah" does not refer to the book that was revealed to Musa (alayhis salam), because that book predates Dawud (alayhis salam) by a long time. How could his mention (in the above form) be present in it? Here, "Tawrah" refers to the scriptures (suhuf) that were revealed to many of those prophets, and included among them is the "Zabur" which was itself revealed to Dawud (alayhis salam). Nowadays, the collection of all these scriptures is called the Bible. In it, the Tawrah is also included, and in fact, the sayings of the disciples of those prophets (alayhimus salam) are also incorporated, to the extent that it is difficult to determine which part is the speech of Allah Ta'ala, and which part is from the prophets or their disciples. This distinction is unique to Muslims: the Book of Allah is entirely distinct, not a single word of anyone else is included in it. And the sayings and actions of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) are separately distinguished and clear. The legal verdicts and statements of his rightly guided companions are completely separate. Nothing is mixed with anything else. And all praise is due to Allah for that.
➋ From this blessed hadith, it is evident that prayer (salah) was also legislated in the Shari'ah of Dawud (alayhis salam).
➌ "Religion" (din) is a means of protection for a person, which saves a person from all disliked things in this world and the Hereafter. Therefore, a servant should continue to supplicate and implore before his Lord, and keep praying for the rectification of his religion.
➍ The world is a means for a person to live his life, and a pure livelihood is a means to enter Paradise. Therefore, one should also keep praying for the betterment of his worldly affairs.
