113. Commentary:
➊ The esteemed researcher has declared the mentioned narration to be authentic in terms of its chain of transmission, although in its chain there is the narrator ‘Ammarah bin ‘Uthman bin Haneef, who is unknown (majhool). Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullah has also declared it weak in terms of its chain. In light of the evidences, his opinion appears to be correct. For details, see: [العلل لابن أبي حاتم : 57/1 ، والموسوعة الحدیثية ، مسند الإمام أحمد : 200/38]
➋ Regarding the issue mentioned in the narration, the correct opinion seems to be that it is permissible to wash the feet with both hands, because there is no evidence prohibiting it. However, it is preferable and more virtuous to wash the feet with the left hand, because the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to perform every good deed with the right hand or from the right side, and any other action he would do with the left hand or from the left side. Moreover, the purpose of washing the feet is generally to remove dirt and filth, which is better and preferable to remove with the left hand. Nevertheless, washing with both hands is also permissible. And Allah knows best.
