Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Muhammad Ameen
1106. Commentary: "Spreading" means that the arms are kept away from the sides, raised above the ground, and the stomach is lifted away from the thighs. Prostration (sujud) should not be performed by lying flat on the ground, rather, one should remain elevated. There is no difference between men and women in this matter. Some jurists, based purely on opinion, have suggested that women should prostrate by clinging to the ground like a frog, but it should be remembered that the religion is not established on anyone's opinion, rather, it is founded upon revelation. Therefore, using opinion in opposition to something explicitly transmitted is blameworthy, and such a statement is rejected. For details, see Hafiz Salahuddin Yusuf (hafizahullah)'s work "Is There a Difference Between the Prayer of Men and Women?" published by Darussalam.
