Hadith 1067

´It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that:` When the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Sami Allahu liman hamidah (Allah hears the one who praises Him),' he said: "Allahumma Rabbana wa lakal-hamd, mil'as-samawati wa mil'al-ardi wa mil'ama shi'ta min shai'in ba'd ( O Allah, our Lord, to You be the Praise, filling the heavens, filling the Earth, and filling whatever else You will.)"

1067. Commentary:

➊ That is, if that praise were to take a physical form, it would surpass everything else. It is possible that this is an allusion to reward.

➋ It is Sunnah to recite this supplication during the standing (qawmah) after bowing (ruku‘).

➌ It is necessary to stand straight and with calmness after bowing, because without standing straight, it is not possible to recite this supplication during the qawmah.

➍ This supplication is recommended (mustahabb) for every person performing prayer, whether he is the imam, a follower (muqtadi), or praying alone (munfarid), because the Noble Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) recited this supplication, and he (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) commanded the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum): “Pray as you have seen me praying.” [صحیح البخاري ، الأذان ، حدیث : 631] This statement of his is for the entire ummah.

➎ This supplication can be recited in every prayer, whether obligatory (fard) or supererogatory (nafl). Some scholars restrict it to supererogatory prayers, but there is no evidence for this restriction. And Allah knows best.
