أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ ، قال : حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ ، قال : سَمِعْتُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ ، وَالْأَسْوَدِ ، أَنَّهُمَا كَانَا مَعَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ فِي بَيْتِهِ فَقَالَ : أَصَلَّى هَؤُلاءِ ؟ . قُلْنَا : نَعَمْ ، فَأَمَّهُمَا وَقَامَ بَيْنَهُمَا بِغَيْرِ أَذَانٍ وَلا إِقَامَةٍ قَالَ : " إِذَا كُنْتُمْ ثَلَاثَةً فَاصْنَعُوا هَكَذَا وَإِذَا كُنْتُمْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَلْيَؤُمَّكُمْ أَحَدُكُمْ وَلْيَفْرِشْ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَى فَخْذَيْهِ فَكَأَنَّمَا أَنْظُرُ إِلَى اخْتِلَافِ أَصَابِعِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " .
´It was narrated from 'Alqamah and Al-Aswad that:` They were with 'Abdullah in his house and he said: "Have these people prayed?" We said: "Yes." So he led them in prayer and stood between them, with no Adhan and no Iqamah, and said: "If you are three then do this, and if you are more than that then let one of you lead the others in prayer, and let him lay his hands on his thighs. It is as if I can see the fingers of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), interlaced.'"
Brief Explanation
1؎: There is brevity here. In the narration of Sahih Muslim «واذا کنتم أکثر من ذلک ، فلیؤمکم أحدکم ، وإذا رکع أحدکم فلیفرش ذراعیہ علی فخذیہ ، ولیجنأ ولیطبق بین کفیہ ، فلَکَأَني أنظر إلی اختلاف أصابع رسول اللہ», it is stated: "That is, when you are more than three, then one of you should step forward and lead the prayer, and when he bows (in ruku‘), he should spread both his arms over both his thighs, and when he goes into ruku‘, he should interlock the fingers of both his hands and place them between his knees, as if I am seeing the fingers of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) interlocked with each other." This is called tatbīq, and it is abrogated. See number: 1033.

1030. Commentary:
➊ Interlacing the fingers of one hand into the fingers of the other hand and placing the hands between the knees is called “tatbeeq.” This will be discussed further ahead.
➋ In the section regarding bowing (ruku‘), this narration is very brief. In Sahih Muslim, this narration appears in detail. The translation here is based on that narration. See: [Sahih Muslim, al-Masajid, Hadith: 534]
➌ The issue of how the imam should stand in the case of two followers has already been discussed previously in the introduction to the Book of Imamate.
