1020. Commentary:
➊ Dawud (alayhis salam) has become proverbial for the beauty of his voice and recitation. In the Noble Qur'an, along with his recitation, the recitation of the mountains and birds is also mentioned. Therefore, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) likened the beautiful voice of Abu Musa (radi Allahu anhu) to the voice of Dawud (alayhis salam), and for this he used the word "mizmar." The meaning of «مزمار» is "flute," but this does not mean that he used to recite with a flute; rather, it is only a simile, that the voice was so moving and attractive as if it were a flute.
➋ Praising a good voice is permissible.
➌ Listening to the recitation of a reciter with a good voice is a commendable act.
