بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِيمَا يُخَافُ مِنَ اللِّسَانِ
What is Reported Regarding Fears from the Tongue
Hadith 1815
حَدَّثَنِي مَالِك، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَنْ وَقَاهُ اللَّهُ شَرَّ اثْنَيْنِ وَلَجَ الْجَنَّةَ "، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَا تُخْبِرْنَا، فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ عَادَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ مِثْلَ مَقَالَتِهِ الْأُولَى، فَقَالَ لَهُ الرَّجُلُ : لَا تُخْبِرْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ أَيْضًا، فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ : لَا تُخْبِرْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ أَيْضًا، ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ الرَّجُلُ يَقُولُ مِثْلَ مَقَالَتِهِ الْأُولَى، فَأَسْكَتَهُ رَجُلٌ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَنْ وَقَاهُ اللَّهُ شَرَّ اثْنَيْنِ وَلَجَ الْجَنَّةَ : مَا بَيْنَ لَحْيَيْهِ وَمَا بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهِ، مَا بَيْنَ لَحْيَيْهِ وَمَا بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهِ، مَا بَيْنَ لَحْيَيْهِ وَمَا بَيْنَ رِجْلَيْهِ "
It is narrated from Hazrat Ata bin Yasar that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever Allah saves from the evil of two things will enter Paradise." A man asked: O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him! Will you not tell us what those two things are? The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, remained silent. Then he said the same thing again, and the man said: Will you not tell us? And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, remained silent. Then he said the same thing again, and the man repeated: Will you not tell us? Then he said the same thing again, and the man kept repeating it, until another person silenced him. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, himself said: "Whoever Allah saves from the evil of two things will enter Paradise: one is that which is between his two jaws (the tongue), and the other is that which is between his two legs (the private parts)." Three times the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said this.
Hadith 1816
وَحَدَّثَنِي وَحَدَّثَنِي مَالِك، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ دَخَلَ عَلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ وَهُوَ يَجْبِذُ لِسَانَهُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ : مَهْ غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَكَ ؟ فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : إِنَّ " هَذَا أَوْرَدَنِي الْمَوَارِدَ "
It is narrated from Hazrat Aslam Adawi that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), and he was pulling his tongue. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Stop! May Allah forgive you. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It is this (tongue) that has brought me to destruction.
