بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي الْمَمْلُوكِ وَهَيْئَتِهِ
What is Reported Regarding the Slave and His Appearance
Hadith 1800
حَدَّثَنِي مَالِك، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " الْعَبْدُ إِذَا نَصَحَ لِسَيِّدِهِ وَأَحْسَنَ عِبَادَةَ اللَّهِ، فَلَهُ أَجْرُهُ مَرَّتَيْنِ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a slave is sincere to his master and worships Allah well, he will have a double reward."
Hadith 1801
وَحَدَّثَنِي وَحَدَّثَنِي مَالِك أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهُ، أَنَّ أَمَةً كَانَتْ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَآهَا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ وَقَدْ تَهَيَّأَتْ بِهَيْئَةِ الْحَرَائِرِ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَى ابْنَتِهِ حَفْصَةَ، فَقَالَ : " أَلَمْ أَرَ جَارِيَةَ أَخِيكِ تَجُوسُ النَّاسَ وَقَدْ تَهَيَّأَتْ بِهَيْئَةِ الْحَرَائِرِ "، وَأَنْكَرَ ذَلِكَ عُمَرُ
It reached Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) had a slave girl who adopted the appearance of free women. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw her and went to his daughter, the Mother of the Believers, Sayyidah Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her), and said: I have seen your brother’s slave girl who goes about among people adopting the appearance of free women. And Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) disliked this.
