بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي الْمَشْرِقِ
What is Reported Regarding the East
Hadith 1785
حَدَّثَنِي مَالِك، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُشِيرُ إِلَى الْمَشْرِقِ، وَيَقُولُ : هَا " إِنَّ الْفِتْنَةَ هَاهُنَا إِنَّ الْفِتْنَةَ هَاهُنَا مِنْ حَيْثُ يَطْلُعُ قَرْنُ الشَّيْطَانِ "
Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, pointing towards the east and saying: "The trial is from this side, the trial is from this side, from where the horn of Satan emerges."
Hadith 1786
وَحَدَّثَنِي وَحَدَّثَنِي مَالِك أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهُ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ أَرَادَ الْخُرُوجَ إِلَى الْعِرَاقِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ كَعْبُ الْأَحْبَارِ : " لَا تَخْرُجْ إِلَيْهَا يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، فَإِنَّ بِهَا تِسْعَةَ أَعْشَارِ السِّحْرِ، وَبِهَا فَسَقَةُ الْجِنِّ، وَبِهَا الدَّاءُ الْعُضَالُ "
It reached Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, that when Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, intended to go to Iraq, Ka'b Ahbar said: Do not go there, O Commander of the Faithful! For in that land are nine parts out of ten of magic, and as many wicked and evil jinn are present there, and there is a disease there which is incurable.
