بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي أَمْرِ الْغَنَمِ
What is Reported Regarding the Matter of Sheep
Hadith 1771
حَدَّثَنِي مَالِك، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " رَأْسُ الْكُفْرِ نَحْوَ الْمَشْرِقِ، وَالْفَخْرُ وَالْخُيَلَاءُ فِي أَهْلِ الْخَيْلِ وَالْإِبِلِ، وَالْفَدَّادِينَ أَهْلِ الْوَبَرِ، وَالسَّكِينَةُ فِي أَهْلِ الْغَنَمِ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The greatest disbelief is towards the east , and pride and arrogance are among those who own horses and camels, who speak loudly, live in the wilderness , and humility and modesty are among those who herd goats."
Hadith 1772
وَحَدَّثَنِي مَالِك، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي صَعْصَعَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يُوشِكُ أَنْ يَكُونَ خَيْرَ مَالِ الْمُسْلِمِ غَنَمٌ يَتْبَعُ بِهَا شَعَفَ الْجِبَالِ، وَمَوَاقِعَ الْقَطْرِ يَفِرُّ بِدِينِهِ مِنَ الْفِتَنِ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A time is near when the best wealth of a Muslim will be a few sheep which he will take to the top of a mountain or to the depths of a valley, fleeing with his religion from tribulations."
Hadith 1773
وَحَدَّثَنِي مَالِك، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " لَا يَحْتَلِبَنَّ أَحَدٌ مَاشِيَةَ أَحَدٍ بِغَيْرِ إِذْنِهِ، أَيُحِبُّ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ تُؤْتَى مَشْرُبَتُهُ فَتُكْسَرَ خِزَانَتُهُ فَيُنْتَقَلَ طَعَامُهُ ؟ وَإِنَّمَا تَخْزُنُ لَهُمْ ضُرُوعُ مَوَاشِيهِمْ أَطْعِمَاتِهِمْ، فَلَا يَحْتَلِبَنَّ أَحَدٌ مَاشِيَةَ أَحَدٍ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No one should milk another's animal without his permission. Would any of you like that someone comes into his storeroom, breaks open his treasure, and takes away his food grain? So, the udders of their animals safeguard their food milk, meaning the udders are for protection just like a storeroom is for protection. Therefore, no one should ever milk another's animal without his permission."
Hadith 1774
وَحَدَّثَنِي مَالِك أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهُ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : " مَا مِنْ نَبِيٍّ إِلَّا قَدْ رَعَى غَنَمًا " قِيلَ : وَأَنْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ؟ قَالَ : " وَأَنَا "
It reached Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There has not passed any prophet except that he herded sheep." The people said: O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him! Did you also? He said: "Yes, I also did."
