Hadith 1757
It is narrated from Ata bin Yasar that a man asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him: "Should I seek permission from my mother when entering the house?" The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Yes." He said: "But I live with her in the same house." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Seek permission before entering." He said: "I serve her." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Seek permission before entering. Do you want to see her naked?" He said: "No." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Then seek permission before entering."
Hadith 1758
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Permission should be sought three times; if permission is granted, then enter, otherwise return."
Hadith 1759
It is narrated from Rabi’ah bin Abi Abdur Rahman that he heard from many scholars that Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission to enter the house of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) three times. When he did not receive a reply after three attempts, he turned back. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a man after him. When he came, Umar asked him: Why did you not come in? Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Permission should be sought three times; if permission is granted, enter, otherwise return.” Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Has anyone else heard this hadith besides you? Bring him, and if you do not, I will punish you. Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) went out and saw many people sitting in the mosque in a gathering called the gathering of the Ansar, and said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “Permission should be sought three times; if permission is granted, enter, otherwise return.” I narrated this hadith to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said that if anyone else has heard this hadith, bring them, otherwise I will punish you. If any of you has heard this hadith, come with me. The people said to Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him): You go, as he was the youngest among them. Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id (may Allah be pleased with him) came with Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) and narrated the hadith to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him): I did not think you were lying, but I was afraid that people might start attributing things to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
