Hadith 1731
It is narrated from Abu Salamah bin Abdur Rahman that Abdur Rahman bin Aswad was his companion, and all the hair of his head and beard was white. One morning he came with red dye applied to his hair, so the people said: It is good. He replied: My mother, Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), sent a message through her slave girl Nakheela, making her swear an oath, that you must apply dye to your hair. And she stated that our master Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) also used to apply dye.
Hadith 1731B1
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: I have not heard any hadith regarding black dye, and any color other than black is better, and not using dye at all is much better if Allah wills, and there is no hardship upon people in this matter.
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: From this hadith it is understood that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, did not use dye; if he had used it, then Lady Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, would have sent this message to Abdur Rahman.
