It is narrated from Yahya ibn Sa'id that Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "My hair reaches my shoulders, should I comb it?" The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes! Comb it and honor the hair." Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) would sometimes apply oil twice in one day, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had said: "Honor the hair."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ata bin Yasar that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was sitting in the mosque when a man with disheveled hair and beard came. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, gestured to him, meaning: go outside the mosque and tidy your hair, then come back. The man tidied himself and returned. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Is this not better than if one of you comes with a disheveled head, like Satan?"
