Hadith 1705
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunaif (that is, As'ad) used to say: My father performed ghusl at Kharrar (a place near Juhfah), so he took off his cloak, and Sayyiduna Amir bin Rabi'ah was watching, and Sayyiduna Sahl was fair-skinned. Sayyiduna Amir bin Rabi'ah, upon seeing him, said: I have never seen a man like you, nor the skin of any virgin woman. Immediately, Sayyiduna Sahl developed a fever, and it was a severe fever. Then someone came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and informed him that Sayyiduna Sahl had developed a fever, and now he would not be able to go with you, O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came to Sayyiduna Sahl, and Sayyiduna Sahl related what Sayyiduna Amir bin Rabi'ah had said. Upon hearing this, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Will one of you kill his brother? (And to Sayyiduna Amir he said) Why did you not say «بَارَكَ اللّٰهُ»? (That is, may Allah bless, or 'Masha Allah la quwwata illa billah' as in another narration). The evil eye is true. Perform wudu for Sahl." Then Sayyiduna Amir performed wudu for Sayyiduna Sahl (this is mentioned in another hadith), after which Sayyiduna Sahl recovered and went with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).
Hadith 1706
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah bin Sahl bin Hunayf (i.e., As'ad) that Sayyiduna 'Amir bin Rabi'ah saw Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunayf while he was bathing and said: "I have never seen a man like you, nor have I seen such skin even on a veiled (never going outside) woman." As soon as he said this, Sayyiduna Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) fell down at his place (becoming ill). People came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Will you not look after Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him)? By Allah, he cannot even lift his head." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "In your opinion, who has cast the evil eye on him?" They said: "Sayyiduna 'Amir bin Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with him) has." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called Sayyiduna 'Amir bin Rabi'ah (may Allah be pleased with him), became angry with him, and said: "Why does one of you kill his brother? Why did you not say «بَارَكَ اللّٰهُ»? Now wash for his sake." Sayyiduna 'Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) washed his face, hands, elbows, knees, the edges of his feet, and the part of his body under the waist-wrapper with water, and collected that water in a vessel. That water was poured over Sayyiduna Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him), and he became well and walked with the people.
