Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Beware of meat (that is, of eating too much meat and becoming accustomed to it), because the desire for meat develops just as the desire for wine develops from drinking it (then it becomes difficult to give up).

It is narrated from Yahya bin Saeed that Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, saw Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him, carrying a load of meat with him. Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, asked: What is this? He replied: O Commander of the Faithful! We desired to eat meat, so we bought meat for one dirham. Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Does none of you wish to restrain his own appetite and feed his neighbor, or feed his cousin? Have you forgotten this verse: «﴿أَذْهَبْتُمْطَيِّبَاتِكُمْفِيحَيَاتِكُمُالدُّنْيَاوَاسْتَمْتَعْتُمْبِهَا﴾» meaning: "You have exhausted your pleasures during your worldly life and enjoyed them, so this Day you will be punished with a humiliating punishment." Until the end of the verse.
