بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي وَبَاءِ الْمَدِينَةِ
What is reported about the plague in Madinah
Hadith 1606
وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ مَالِك، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : لَمَّا قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَدِينَةَ وُعِكَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَبِلَالٌ، قَالَتْ : فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَيْهِمَا، فَقُلْتُ : يَا أَبَتِ كَيْفَ تَجِدُكَ ؟ وَيَا بِلَالُ كَيْفَ تَجِدُكَ ؟ قَالَتْ : فَكَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ إِذَا أَخَذَتْهُ الْحُمَّى، يَقُولُ : كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مُصَبَّحٌ فِي أَهْلِهِ وَالْمَوْتُ أَدْنَى مِنْ شِرَاكِ نَعْلِهِ وَكَانَ بِلَالٌ إِذَا أُقْلِعَ عَنْهُ يَرْفَعُ عَقِيرَتَهُ، فَيَقُولُ : أَلَا لَيْتَ شِعْرِي هَلْ أَبِيتَنَّ لَيْلَةً بِوَادٍ وَحَوْلِي إِذْخِرٌ وَجَلِيلُ ؟ وَهَلْ أَرِدَنْ يَوْمًا مِيَاهَ مَجِنَّةٍ ؟ وَهَلْ يَبْدُوَنْ لِي شَامَةٌ وَطَفِيلُ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : فَجِئْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ، فَقَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ حَبِّبْ إِلَيْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ كَحُبِّنَا مَكَّةَ أَوْ أَشَدَّ، وَصَحِّحْهَا وَبَارِكْ لَنَا فِي صَاعِهَا وَمُدِّهَا، وَانْقُلْ حُمَّاهَا فَاجْعَلْهَا بِالْجُحْفَةِ " .
It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Madinah, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with them both) were afflicted with fever. Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) went to them and said: O my father! How are you? O Bilal! How are you? Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that when Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) would get fever, he would recite a verse of poetry, the translation of which is: Every man wakes up in his house, and death is closer to him than the strap of his sandal. And when Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) would recover from fever, he would raise his voice and say: If only I knew whether I would spend another night in the valley of Makkah, with Idhkhir and Jalil (both are types of grass in Makkah) around me, and whether I would ever again come down to the water of Majannah (Majannah is a place several miles from Makkah, where there used to be markets in the time of ignorance), and whether I would ever again see Shamah and Tufail (two mountains about thirty miles from Makkah, or two springs). Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) heard these things and came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and related them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) then prayed: “O Lord! Put love for Madinah in our hearts equal to the love we had for Makkah or even more, and grant health and well-being in Madinah, and bless its sa’ and mudd (measures), and remove its fever, and send this fever to Juhfah.”
Hadith 1607
عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ : وَكَانَ عَامِرُ بْنُ فُهَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ : قَدْ رَأَيْتُ الْمَوْتَ قَبْلَ ذَوْقِهْ ... إِنَّ الْجَبَانَ حَتْفُهُ مِنْ فَوْقِهْ.
Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said that Amir bin Fuhaira used to say: I have seen death beyond dying... the death of the impotent comes from above.
Hadith 1608
وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ مَالِك، عَنْ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُجْمِرِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " عَلَى أَنْقَابِ الْمَدِينَةِ مَلَائِكَةٌ لَا يَدْخُلُهَا الطَّاعُونُ وَلَا الدَّجَّالُ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There are angels on the roads of Madinah; neither plague enters it, nor the Dajjal."
