Hadith 1495
Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) fixed the value of blood money for the villagers; for those who possessed gold, he set it at one thousand dinars, and for those who possessed silver, he set it at twelve thousand dirhams.
Hadith 1495B1
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said that the people of Sham and Egypt are those of gold, and the people of Iraq are those of silver.
Hadith 1495B2
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: And three years (for payment) is the most beloved to me among all the statements I have heard regarding this matter.
Hadith 1495B3
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: The ruling upon which there is consensus among us is that indeed, camels will not be accepted as blood money from the people of towns, and neither gold nor silver will be taken from the people of the pillars (the nomads who live in tents) (rather, only camels will be taken from them), and neither will gold be taken from those who possess silver, nor silver from those who possess gold.
