It is narrated from Hazrat Saeed bin Musayyib that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade selling an animal in exchange for its meat.

Said ibn al-Musayyib used to say: This too is gambling of the Jahiliyyah—to sell meat in exchange for one goat or two goats.
Hadith 1368
Said ibn al-Musayyib used to say: It is prohibited to sell an animal in exchange for meat. Abu al-Zinad said: I asked Said ibn al-Musayyib, "What if a person buys a camel in exchange for ten goats?" Said replied: "If it is bought for slaughtering, then it is not preferable." Abu al-Zinad said: I found all the scholars prohibiting the sale of an animal in exchange for meat, and during the time of Aban ibn Uthman and Hisham ibn Isma'il, this prohibition used to be written in the official decrees of the governors.
