Hadith 1250
حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى، عَنْ مَالِك، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ بِنْتِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، أَخْبَرَتْهَا : أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ عِنْدَهَا، وَأَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ صَوْتَ رَجُلٍ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِ حَفْصَةَ، قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، هَذَا رَجُلٌ يَسْتَأْذِنُ فِي بَيْتِكَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " أُرَاهُ فُلَانًا " لِعَمٍّ لِحَفْصَةَ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ، فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، لَوْ كَانَ فُلَانٌ حَيًّا لِعَمِّهَا مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ، دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " نَعَمْ، إِنَّ الرَّضَاعَةَ تُحَرِّمُ مَا تُحَرِّمُ الْوِلَادَةُ "
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was with Lady Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, in her house. Meanwhile, Lady Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, heard the voice of a man who was seeking permission to enter the house of Lady Hafsa, may Allah be pleased with her. Lady Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said: O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him! Who is this man who wants to enter your house? The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I think it is so-and-so," mentioning the name of Lady Hafsa’s, may Allah be pleased with her, foster uncle. When Lady Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said: O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him! If my foster uncle were alive, would he come before me? The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Yes, breastfeeding makes unlawful what blood relations make unlawful."
Hadith 1251
وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ مَالِك، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : جَاءَ عَمِّي مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ يَسْتَأْذِنُ عَلَيَّ، فَأَبَيْتُ أَنْ آذَنَ لَهُ عَلَيَّ، حَتَّى أَسْأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ، فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّهُ عَمُّكِ، فَأْذَنِي لَهُ "، قَالَتْ : فَقُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنَّمَا أَرْضَعَتْنِي الْمَرْأَةُ وَلَمْ يُرْضِعْنِي الرَّجُلُ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّهُ عَمُّكِ، فَلْيَلِجْ عَلَيْكِ "، قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : وَذَلِكَ بَعْدَ مَا ضُرِبَ عَلَيْنَا الْحِجَابُ . وَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : " يَحْرُمُ مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ مَا يَحْرُمُ مِنَ الْوِلَادَةِ "
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: My foster uncle came to me and asked permission to enter. I said: I will not give permission without asking the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came, I asked him. He (peace be upon him) said: "He is your uncle, so give him permission to enter." I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)! It was a woman who suckled me, what does a man have to do with that? He (peace be upon him) said: "He is your uncle, indeed he may come to you." And this conversation took place after the verse of Hijab had been revealed. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The relationships that are forbidden by lineage are also forbidden by suckling.
Hadith 1252
وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ مَالِك، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، أَنَّهَا أَخْبَرَتْهُ : أَنَّ أَفْلَحَ أَخَا أَبِي الْقُعَيْسِ جَاءَ يَسْتَأْذِنُ عَلَيْهَا وَهُوَ عَمُّهَا مِنَ الرَّضَاعَةِ، بَعْدَ أَنْ أُنْزِلَ الْحِجَابُ، قَالَتْ : فَأَبَيْتُ أَنْ آذَنَ لَهُ عَلَيَّ، فَلَمَّا جَاءَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخْبَرْتُهُ بِالَّذِي صَنَعْتُ، " فَأَمَرَنِي أَنْ آذَنَ لَهُ عَلَيَّ "
Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said that my foster uncle, Aflah, came to me after the verse of Hijab was revealed. I did not allow him to enter. When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came, I informed him of this incident, so he (peace be upon him) said: "Allow him to enter."
Hadith 1253
وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ مَالِك، عَنْ ثَوْرِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ الدِّيلِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ : " مَا كَانَ فِي الْحَوْلَيْنِ، وَإِنْ كَانَ مَصَّةً وَاحِدَةً فَهُوَ يُحَرِّمُ "
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) used to say: If a child suckles even once within two years, the prohibition of suckling (milk kinship) will be established.
Hadith 1254
وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ مَالِك، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الشَّرِيدِ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ سُئِلَ عَنْ رَجُلٍ كَانَتْ لَهُ امْرَأَتَانِ، فَأَرْضَعَتْ إِحْدَاهُمَا غُلَامًا، وَأَرْضَعَتِ الْأُخْرَى جَارِيَةً، فَقِيلَ لَهُ : هَلْ يَتَزَوَّجُ الْغُلَامُ الْجَارِيَةَ ؟ فَقَالَ : " لَا، اللِّقَاحُ وَاحِدٌ "
It is narrated from Amr bin Shuraid that a question was asked to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them): If a man has two wives, and one wife breastfeeds a boy and the other wife breastfeeds a girl, is the marriage between that boy and girl permissible? He replied: It is not permissible because both have the same father.
Hadith 1255
وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ مَالِك، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ ، كَانَ يَقُولُ : " لَا رَضَاعَةَ إِلَّا لِمَنْ أُرْضِعَ فِي الصِّغَرِ، وَلَا رَضَاعَةَ لِكَبِيرٍ "
Nafi reports that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to say: Suckling is only that which occurs within two years; after that, suckling is not established.
Hadith 1256
وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ مَالِك، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَنَّ سَالِمَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَرْسَلَتْ بِهِ وَهُوَ يَرْضَعُ إِلَى أُخْتِهَا أُمِّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ، فَقَالَتْ : " أَرْضِعِيهِ عَشْرَ رَضَعَاتٍ حَتَّى يَدْخُلَ عَلَيَّ "، قَالَ سَالِمٌ : فَأَرْضَعَتْنِي أُمُّ كُلْثُومٍ ثَلَاثَ رَضَعَاتٍ ثُمَّ مَرِضَتْ، فَلَمْ تُرْضِعْنِي غَيْرَ ثَلَاثِ رَضَعَاتٍ، فَلَمْ أَكُنْ أَدْخُلُ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ مِنْ أَجْلِ أَنَّ أُمَّ كُلْثُومٍ لَمْ تُتِمّ لِي عَشْرَ رَضَعَاتٍ
Lady Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, sent Salim bin Abdullah, when he was an infant, to her sister Umm Kulthum so that she might nurse him ten times, so that he could come before her without veil. Salim said: Umm Kulthum nursed me three times, after which she became ill, so I did not go before Lady Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, because I had not nursed from Umm Kulthum ten times.
Hadith 1257
وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ مَالِك، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَنَّ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ أَخْبَرَتْهُ، أَنَّ حَفْصَةَ أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ " أَرْسَلَتْ بِعَاصِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ إِلَى أُخْتِهَا فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ تُرْضِعُهُ عَشْرَ رَضَعَاتٍ لِيَدْخُلَ عَلَيْهَا، وَهُوَ صَغِيرٌ يَرْضَعُ، فَفَعَلَتْ، فَكَانَ يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْهَا "
Nafi reports that Safiyyah bint Abi Ubaid narrated that Umm al-Mu'minin Sayyida Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) sent Asim bin Abdullah bin Sa'd, when he was an infant, to her sister Sayyida Fatimah bint Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with her) so that she could breastfeed him ten times, so that when he grew up, he could appear before her. Sayyida Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) breastfed Asim, and when Asim grew up, Sayyida Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) used to appear before him.
Hadith 1258
وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ مَالِك، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " كَانَ يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْهَا مَنْ أَرْضَعَتْهُ أَخَوَاتُهَا، وَبَنَاتُ أَخِيهَا، وَلَا يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْهَا مَنْ أَرْضَعَهُ نِسَاءُ إِخْوَتِهَا "
It is narrated from Qasim bin Muhammad that Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) used to appear before those whose sisters and nieces had been breastfed, and she did not appear before those whose sisters-in-law had been breastfed.
Hadith 1259
وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ مَالِك، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيَّبِ عَنِ الرَّضَاعَةِ، فَقَالَ سَعِيدٌ : " كُلُّ مَا كَانَ فِي الْحَوْلَيْنِ، وَإِنْ كَانَتْ قَطْرَةً وَاحِدَةً فَهُوَ يُحَرِّمُ، وَمَا كَانَ بَعْدَ الْحَوْلَيْنِ فَإِنَّمَا هُوَ طَعَامٌ يَأْكُلُهُ " ، قَالَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ : ثُمَّ سَأَلْتُ عُرْوَةَ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ ، فَقَالَ مِثْلَ مَا قَالَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيَّبِ
Ibrahim bin Utbah asked Sa'id bin al-Musayyib about the ruling of suckling (rada'ah). Sa'id said: Suckling that occurs within two years establishes prohibition, even if it is a single drop, and whatever occurs after two years does not establish prohibition; rather, it is like other foods and drinks. Ibrahim said: Then I asked 'Urwah bin Zubair, and he said the same.
Hadith 1260
وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ مَالِك، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيَّبِ ، يَقُولُ : " لَا رَضَاعَةَ إِلَّا مَا كَانَ فِي الْمَهْدِ، وَإِلَّا مَا أَنْبَتَ اللَّحْمَ وَالدَّمَ "
Yahya ibn Sa'id said: Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib used to say: Suckling is only that which occurs in childhood when the child is in the lap, and from this suckling, blood and flesh increase.
Hadith 1261
وَحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ مَالِك، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ : " الرَّضَاعَةُ قَلِيلُهَا وَكَثِيرُهَا تُحَرِّمُ، وَالرَّضَاعَةُ مِنْ قِبَلِ الرِّجَالِ تُحَرِّمُ " . قَالَ يَحْيَى : وَسَمِعْتُ مَالِكًا، يَقُولُ : الرَّضَاعَةُ قَلِيلُهَا وَكَثِيرُهَا إِذَا كَانَ فِي الْحَوْلَيْنِ تُحَرِّمُ، فَأَمَّا مَا كَانَ بَعْدَ الْحَوْلَيْنِ، فَإِنَّ قَلِيلَهُ وَكَثِيرَهُ لَا يُحَرِّمُ شَيْئًا، وَإِنَّمَا هُوَ بِمَنْزِلَةِ الطَّعَامِ
Ibn Shihab used to say: Whether suckling is little or much, it establishes prohibition, and suckling from the side of men also establishes prohibition.
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Within two years, whether suckling is little or much, it establishes prohibition, and suckling after two years does not establish prohibition; rather, it is like other foods.
