Hadith 959
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The example of the one who strives in the way of Allah is like that of a person who fasts during the day and stands in prayer at night, not tiring from prayer nor from fasting, until he returns from striving (jihad)."
Hadith 960
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Allah is the guarantor of the person who fights in His way, and does not leave his house except with the intention of jihad, believing in Allah's word as true, that Allah will admit him to Paradise, or will return him to his home from where he set out with reward and spoils."
Hadith 961
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "For one person, horses are a source of reward, for another they are a means of livelihood, and for another they are a source of sin. Reward is for the one who keeps them for jihad, then lets their rope loose in a field or pasture, so however far they graze because of that rope, good deeds are written for him. And if they reach a river and drink water, and the owner did not intend to give them water, even then good deeds are written for him. And they are a means of livelihood for the one who keeps them for trade and pays their zakat. And they are a source of sin for the one who keeps them for pride, showing off, and enmity towards Muslims." And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was asked about donkeys. He said: "Nothing has been revealed to me regarding this matter, except this verse which alone encompasses all good deeds: «﴿فَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ خَيْرًا يَرَهُ وَمَنْ يَعْمَلْ مِثْقَالَ ذَرَّةٍ شَرًّا يَرَهُ﴾ [الزلزلة: 8]»."
Hadith 962
It is narrated from Ata bin Yasar that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Shall I not tell you about the person who holds the highest rank? It is the person who, holding the reins of his horse, strives in jihad in the way of Allah. Shall I not tell you about the one who holds the next highest rank after him? It is the person who, in a corner, with his goats and provisions, performs prayer and worships Allah, associating none with Him."
Hadith 963
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that we pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): to listen and obey in ease and hardship, in happiness and sorrow, and we pledged allegiance that we would not dispute with the one who is worthy of Muslim leadership, and on this matter that we would speak the truth or remain firm upon the truth, wherever we may be, and in the work of Allah we would not fear the blame of any blamer.

It is narrated from Hazrat Zaid bin Aslam that Sayyiduna Abu Ubaidah bin Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) about the Roman armies and his fears. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) replied in writing: After praise and blessings, know that when a hardship befalls a believing servant, then after it Allah the Exalted grants happiness, and one hardship cannot overcome two eases, and surely Allah the Exalted says in His Book: "O you who believe! Be patient in hardships, and be steadfast against the disbelievers, and remain firm in jihad, and fear Allah, so that you may attain salvation."
