Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said that I like this narration very much, because Allah, Glorious and Exalted is He, says in His Book: "O you who believe! Do not kill game while you are in the state of Ihram, and whoever among you kills it intentionally, then its recompense is an animal like the one he killed, as judged by two just men among you, as an offering delivered to the Ka'bah, or as an expiation, feeding the poor, or its equivalent in fasting, so that he may taste the consequence of his deed." So sometimes the compensation for an animal is also a goat, and Allah, Glorious and Exalted is He, has called it a sacrificial offering (hady). There is no difference of opinion among us in this matter, and how could anyone doubt it, because for an animal that is not equal to a camel or a cow, its compensation will only be a goat, and if it is less than a goat, then there will be expiation, either by fasting or by feeding the poor.
Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) was informed that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say: By «﴿مَااسْتَيْسَرَمِنَالْهَدْيِ﴾» one goat is meant.

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Abi Bakr, he said: A freed slave woman of Amrah bint Abdur Rahman, whose name was Ruqayyah, used to say to me that I set out with Amrah bint Abdur Rahman to Makkah, so on the eighth of Dhul-Hijjah, Amrah reached Makkah and I was with her. She performed Tawaf of the Ka'bah and Sa'i between Safa and Marwah. Then Amrah went inside the mosque and said to me: Do you have scissors? I said: No. Amrah said: Find and bring them from somewhere. So I searched and brought them, and Amrah cut her hair locks with them. When the Day of Sacrifice (Yawm al-Nahr) came, she slaughtered a goat.
