بَابٌ رَكْعَتَا الطَّوَافِ
Chapter: Two Rak'ahs of Tawaf
Hadith 816
حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ " أَنَّهُ كَانَ لَا يَجْمَعُ بَيْنَ السُّبْعَيْنِ ، لَا يُصَلِّي بَيْنَهُمَا وَلَكِنَّهُ كَانَ يُصَلِّي بَعْدَ كُلِّ سُبْعٍ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ، فَرُبَّمَا صَلَّى عِنْدَ الْمَقَامِ أَوْ عِنْدَ غَيْرِهِ "
Hazrat Urwah bin Zubair did not perform two Tawafs together in such a way that he would not offer two Rak'ahs of Tawaf between them; rather, after every seven circuits, he would perform two Rak'ahs near Maqam Ibrahim or at some other place.
Hadith 816B1
وَسُئِلَ مَالِك ، عَنِ الطَّوَافِ إِنْ كَانَ أَخَفَّ عَلَى الرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَتَطَوَّعَ بِهِ ، فَيَقْرُنَ بَيْنَ الْأُسْبُوعَيْنِ أَوْ أَكْثَرَ ، ثُمَّ يَرْكَعُ مَا عَلَيْهِ مِنْ رُكُوعِ تِلْكَ السُّبُوعِ ؟ قَالَ : لَا يَنْبَغِي ذَلِكَ . وَإِنَّمَا السُّنَّةُ أَنْ يُتْبِعَ كُلَّ سُبْعٍ رَكْعَتَيْنِ
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked: If a person, considering it easier, performs two or three circuits (tawaf) and then offers two units of prayer after all of them, is this correct? He replied: No, he should offer two units of prayer after every seven circuits.
Hadith 816B2
قَالَ مَالِك ، فِي الرَّجُلِ يَدْخُلُ فِي الطَّوَافِ فَيَسْهُو حَتَّى يَطُوفَ ثَمَانِيَةَ أَوْ تِسْعَةَ أَطْوَافٍ ، قَالَ : يَقْطَعُ إِذَا عَلِمَ أَنَّهُ قَدْ زَادَ ، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَلَا يَعْتَدُّ بِالَّذِي كَانَ زَادَ ، وَلَا يَنْبَغِي لَهُ أَنْ يَبْنِيَ عَلَى التِّسْعَةِ حَتَّى يُصَلِّيَ سُبْعَيْنِ جَمِيعًا ، لِأَنَّ السُّنَّةَ فِي الطَّوَافِ أَنْ يُتْبِعَ كُلَّ سُبْعٍ رَكْعَتَيْنِ
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: A person began Tawaf and forgot, so he made eight or nine circuits. When he becomes aware, he should stop the Tawaf. Then he should pray two rak'ahs, and not consider the extra circuits, and he should not complete another Tawaf and then perform the two rak'ahs for both Tawafs together. Because the Sunnah is that the two rak'ahs for each Tawaf should be performed after it.
Hadith 816B3
قَالَ مَالِك : وَمَنْ شَكَّ فِي طَوَافِهِ بَعْدَمَا يَرْكَعُ رَكْعَتَيِ الطَّوَافِ ، فَلْيَعُدْ فَلْيُتَمِّمْ طَوَافَهُ عَلَى الْيَقِينِ ، ثُمَّ لِيُعِدِ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ لِأَنَّهُ لَا صَلَاةَ لِطَوَافٍ ، إِلَّا بَعْدَ إِكْمَالِ السُّبْعِ
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said that if a person performs Tawaf and then offers two rak'ahs, but then doubts whether he completed seven circuits, he should complete the seven circuits and offer the two rak'ahs again, because the two rak'ahs should be performed only after completing the seven circuits.
Hadith 816B4
وَمَنْ أَصَابَهُ شَيْءٌ يَنْقُضُ وُضُوءَهُ وَهُوَ يَطُوفُ بِالْبَيْتِ ، أَوْ يَسْعَى بَيْنَ الصَّفَا ، وَالْمَرْوَةِ أَوْ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ أَصَابَهُ ذَلِكَ ، وَقَدْ طَافَ بَعْضَ الطَّوَافِ أَوْ كُلَّهُ ، وَلَمْ يَرْكَعْ رَكْعَتَيِ الطَّوَافِ فَإِنَّهُ يَتَوَضَّأُ ، وَيَسْتَأْنِفُ الطَّوَافَ وَالرَّكْعَتَيْنِ وَأَمَّا السَّعْيُ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا ، وَالْمَرْوَةِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَقْطَعُ ذَلِكَ عَلَيْهِ مَا أَصَابَهُ مِنَ انْتِقَاضِ وُضُوئِهِ ، وَلَا يَدْخُلُ السَّعْيَ إِلَّا وَهُوَ طَاهِرٌ بِوُضُوءٍ
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said that if a person's ablution breaks while performing tawaf or sa'i, he should perform ablution and start the tawaf anew, and complete the remaining rounds of sa'i. This is because sa'i is not invalidated by the breaking of ablution, but when starting sa'i, one should be in a state of ablution.
