بَابُ التَّكْبِيرِ عَلَى الْجَنَائِزِ
Takbir over the deceased
Hadith 532
حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيَّبِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَعَى النَّجَاشِيَّ لِلنَّاسِ فِي الْيَوْمِ الَّذِي مَاتَ فِيهِ ، وَخَرَجَ بِهِمْ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى فَصَفَّ بِهِمْ وَكَبَّرَ أَرْبَعَ تَكْبِيرَاتٍ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day when Najashi (the King of Abyssinia) passed away, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) informed the people of his death on that very day, went out to the prayer place, formed rows, and performed the funeral prayer, saying four takbirs.
Hadith 533
وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ ، أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ مِسْكِينَةً مَرِضَتْ فَأُخْبِرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِمَرَضِهَا ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَعُودُ الْمَسَاكِينَ وَيَسْأَلُ عَنْهُمْ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا مَاتَتْ فَآذِنُونِي بِهَا " ، فَخُرِجَ بِجَنَازَتِهَا لَيْلًا ، فَكَرِهُوا أَنْ يُوقِظُوا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُخْبِرَ بِالَّذِي كَانَ مِنْ شَأْنِهَا ، فَقَالَ : " أَلَمْ آمُرْكُمْ أَنْ تُؤْذِنُونِي بِهَا " ، فَقَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَرِهْنَا أَنْ نُخْرِجَكَ لَيْلًا وَنُوقِظَكَ ، فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى صَفَّ بِالنَّاسِ عَلَى قَبْرِهَا ، وَكَبَّرَ أَرْبَعَ تَكْبِيرَاتٍ
It is narrated from Abu Umamah that a poor woman became ill in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he was informed about her. And it was his practice, peace and blessings be upon him, to visit the sick among the poor and inquire about their condition. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When this woman dies, inform me." So her funeral took place at night, and the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, disliked waking the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. When morning came, he was informed of her condition. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Did I not tell you to inform me?" The Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, said: O Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him! We disliked waking you and bringing you out at night. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, went out and formed rows at her grave and said four takbirs.
Hadith 534
وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ مَالِك ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ ابْنَ شِهَابٍ ، عَنِ الرَّجُلِ يُدْرِكُ بَعْضَ التَّكْبِيرِ عَلَى الْجَنَازَةِ وَيَفُوتُهُ بَعْضُهُ ، فَقَالَ : " يَقْضِي مَا فَاتَهُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ "
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, asked Ibn Shihab about a person who catches some of the takbirs of the funeral prayer but misses some; what should he do? He said: He should make up for as many as he missed.
