Hadith 524
Yahya ibn Sa'id said: It has reached me that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, said to Sayyida Aisha al-Siddiqa, may Allah be pleased with her, during his illness: "In how many garments was the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, shrouded?" Sayyida Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said: "In three white garments of Sahul." Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "This garment that I am wearing has ochre or saffron on it, so wash it and use it along with the other garments to shroud me." Sayyida Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, said: "What is this (is there no other garment)?" Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "The living have more need of clothing than the dead; the shroud is only for pus and blood."
Hadith 525
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Al-Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) that a deceased should be dressed in a shirt and an izar (lower garment), then wrapped in a third cloth. If there is only one cloth, then the shroud should be given in that alone.
