It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that people were performing the morning prayer in the mosque of Quba, when a person came and said that during the night, Qur'an was revealed to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and he was commanded to face the Ka'bah. Then those people turned towards the Ka'bah while still in prayer, and previously their faces were towards Syria.

It is narrated from Hazrat Sa'id bin Musayyib that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) offered prayers facing Bayt al-Maqdis for sixteen months after coming to Madinah, then the Qiblah was changed two months before the Battle of Badr.

Nafi reports that Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Between the east and the west is the qiblah, when one faces towards the Ka'bah.
