Hadith 429
It is narrated from Ibn Shihab that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to perform the Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha prayers before the sermon (that is, he used to deliver the Eid sermons after performing the Eid prayers).
Hadith 430
Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) was informed that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) also used to do the same. (That is, they would deliver the sermon after the prayer on the two Eids.)
Hadith 431
It is narrated from Abu Ubaid, the freed slave of Abdur Rahman bin Azhar, that I was present on Eid with Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) performed the prayer, then after finishing, he delivered the sermon and said: These two days (Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha) are the days on which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade fasting; this Eid al-Fitr is the day on which you break your fast, and Eid al-Adha is the day on which you eat from your sacrifice. Abu Ubaid said: Then I was present on Eid with Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), so he came and performed the prayer, then after finishing the prayer, he delivered the sermon and said: Today there are two Eids (one Eid al-Fitr and one Jumu’ah), so whoever among the outsiders wishes, may stay for Jumu’ah, and whoever wishes to return to his home, may go①, I have given permission. Abu Ubaid said: Then I was present on Eid with Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was besieged②, so Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came and led the prayer, then after finishing the prayer, he delivered the sermon.
