بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Chapter on What is Reported Regarding Sending Blessings on the Prophet (peace be upon him)
Hadith 397
حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ حَزْمٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو حُمَيْدٍ السَّاعِدِيُّ ، أَنَّهُمْ قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، كَيْفَ نُصَلِّي عَلَيْكَ ؟ فَقَالَ : " قُولُوا : اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَأَزْوَاجِهِ وَذُرِّيَّتِهِ ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَأَزْوَاجِهِ وَذُرِّيَّتِهِ ، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ "
It is narrated from Abu Humayd Sa'idi that the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! How should we send blessings upon you? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say, O Lord, send mercy upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his wives and his family as You sent mercy upon Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and send blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his wives and his family as You sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Surely, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious."
Hadith 398
وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُجْمِرِ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ : أَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي مَجْلِسِ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَادَةَ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ بَشِيرُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ : أَمَرَنَا اللَّهُ أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، فَكَيْفَ نُصَلِّي عَلَيْكَ ؟ قَالَ : فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى تَمَنَّيْنَا أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَسْأَلْهُ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " قُولُوا : اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فِي الْعَالَمِينَ ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ وَالسَّلَامُ كَمَا قَدْ عَلِمْتُمْ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas’ud Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to us at the house of Sayyiduna Sa’d bin ‘Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Bashir bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): “Allah, the Exalted, has commanded us to send blessings upon you, so how should we send blessings upon you?” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) remained silent until we wished that he had not asked him. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Say: «اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَبَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فِي الْعَالَمِينَ، إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ» and the manner of sending peace is as you already know.”
Hadith 399
وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ ، قَالَ : رَأَيْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ : " يَقِفُ عَلَى قَبْرِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَيُصَلِّي عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَعَلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، وَعُمَرَ "
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Dinar that I saw Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) standing at the grave of the Prophet (peace be upon him), then sending blessings upon him (peace be upon him) and upon Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).
