بَابُ وَضْعِ الْيَدَيْنِ عَلَى مَا يُوضَعُ عَلَيْهِ الْوَجْهُ فِي السُّجُودِ
Chapter on Placing Hands Where the Face is Placed in Prostration
Hadith 390
حَدَّثَنِي حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ " كَانَ إِذَا سَجَدَ وَضَعَ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَى الَّذِي يَضَعُ عَلَيْهِ جَبْهَتَهُ . قَالَ نَافِعٌ : وَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُهُ فِي يَوْمٍ شَدِيدِ الْبَرْدِ وَإِنَّهُ لَيُخْرِجُ كَفَّيْهِ مِنْ تَحْتِ بُرْنُسٍ لَهُ حَتَّى يَضَعَهُمَا عَلَى الْحَصْبَاءِ
It is narrated from Hazrat Nafi that when Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) performed prostration, he would place his hands on the same thing upon which he prostrated. Hazrat Nafi said that on a very cold day, I saw Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) take his hands out from his cloak and place them on the stony ground.
Hadith 391
وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ ، كَانَ يَقُولُ : " مَنْ وَضَعَ جَبْهَتَهُ بِالْأَرْضِ فَلْيَضَعْ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَى الَّذِي يَضَعُ عَلَيْهِ جَبْهَتَهُ ، ثُمَّ إِذَا رَفَعَ فَلْيَرْفَعْهُمَا فَإِنَّ الْيَدَيْنِ تَسْجُدَانِ كَمَا يَسْجُدُ الْوَجْهُ "
It is narrated from Nafi‘ that Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) used to say: Whoever places his forehead on the ground should also place his hands on the ground, then when he raises his face, he should also raise his hands, because the hands also perform prostration just as the face performs prostration.
