بَابُ مَا لَا يَجِبُ فِيْهِ الْوُضُوْءِ
What does not require ablution
Hadith 44
حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُمَارَةَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ وَلَدٍ لِإِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ ، أَنَّهَا سَأَلَتْ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَتْ : إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أُطِيلُ ذَيْلِي وَأَمْشِي فِي الْمَكَانِ الْقَذِرِ ، قَالَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " يُطَهِّرُهُ مَا بَعْدَهُ "
The slave woman of Ibrahim bin Abdur Rahman asked Umm al-Mu'minin Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her): "My garment hangs low and long, and sometimes I happen to walk in an impure place." So Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What comes after it purifies it."
Hadith 45
وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ مَالِك ، " أَنَّهُ رَأَى رَبِيعَةَ بْنَ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ يَقْلِسُ مِرَارًا ، وَهُوَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَلَا يَنْصَرِفُ وَلَا يَتَوَضَّأُ حَتَّى يُصَلِّيَ " . ¤ قَالَ يَحْيَى : وَسُئِلَ مَالِك ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ قَلَسَ طَعَامًا ، هَلْ عَلَيْهِ وُضُوءٌ ؟ فَقَالَ : لَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ وُضُوءٌ وَلْيَتَمَضْمَضْ مِنْ ذَلِكَ وَلْيَغْسِلْ فَاهُ
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, says that I saw Rabiah bin Abi Abdur Rahman, several times he vomited water and he was in the mosque, then he did not perform ablution and offered prayer.
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked: If someone vomits food, is ablution obligatory upon him? He said: Ablution is not obligatory upon him, rather he should rinse his mouth and wash his face.

وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ " حَنَّطَ ابْنًا لِسَعِيدِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ وَحَمَلَهُ ، ثُمَّ دَخَلَ الْمَسْجِدَ فَصَلَّى وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ " . ¤ قَالَ يَحْيَى : وَسُئِلَ مَالِك ، هَلْ فِي الْقَيْءِ وُضُوءٌ ؟ قَالَ : لَا ، وَلَكِنْ لِيَتَمَضْمَضْ مِنْ ذَلِكَ وَلْيَغْسِلْ فَاهُ وَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِ وُضُوءٌ
It is narrated from Hazrat Nafi that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) applied perfume to the child of Sayyiduna Saeed bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him), who was deceased, and lifted him, then came to the mosque and offered prayer and did not perform ablution.
Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) was asked whether ablution is required after vomiting or not. He said: Ablution is not required, but he should rinse his mouth and wash his face.
