بَابُ وُضُوءِ النَّائِمِ إِذَا قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ
Chapter on ablution for one who wakes up for prayer
Hadith 36
حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " إِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنْ نَوْمِهِ ، فَلْيَغْسِلْ يَدَهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُدْخِلَهَا فِي وَضُوئِهِ ، فَإِنَّ أَحَدَكُمْ لَا يَدْرِي أَيْنَ بَاتَتْ يَدُهُ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When any one of you wakes up from sleep, he should wash his hands before putting them into water, for he does not know where his hand spent the night."
Hadith 37
وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ، قَالَ : " إِذَا نَامَ أَحَدُكُمْ مُضْطَجِعًا فَلْيَتَوَضَّأْ "
It is narrated from Hazrat Zaid bin Aslam that he said: Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whoever among you sleeps lying down should perform ablution.
Hadith 38
وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ ، " أَنَّ تَفْسِيرَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةِ : يَأَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا قُمْتُمْ إِلَى الصَّلاةِ فَاغْسِلُوا وُجُوهَكُمْ وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ إِلَى الْمَرَافِقِ وَامْسَحُوا بِرُءُوسِكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُمْ إِلَى الْكَعْبَيْنِ سورة المائدة آية 6 : أَنَّ ذَلِكَ إِذَا قُمْتُمْ مِنَ الْمَضَاجِعِ ، يَعْنِي النَّوْمَ "
Hazrat Zaid bin Aslam said that what Allah, Glorious and Exalted, has said: "When you rise for prayer, then wash your face, and your hands up to the elbows, and wipe your heads, and wash your feet up to the ankles." The purpose of this is that when you rise for prayer after sleeping.
Hadith 38B
قَالَ يَحْيَى : قَالَ مَالِك : الْأَمْرُ عِنْدَنَا أَنَّهُ لَا يَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ رُعَافٍ ، وَلَا مِنْ دَمٍ ، وَلَا مِنْ قَيْحٍ يَسِيلُ مِنَ الْجَسَدِ ، وَلَا يَتَوَضَّأُ إِلَّا مِنْ حَدَثٍ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ ذَكَرٍ ، أَوْ دُبُرٍ أَوْ نَوْمٍ
Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) said: In our view, nosebleed, blood flowing, or pus oozing does not necessitate ablution; rather, one should not perform ablution except due to impurity that comes out from the anus or the penis, or if one sleeps.
Hadith 39
وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ " كَانَ يَنَامُ جَالِسًا ، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي وَلَا يَتَوَضَّأُ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he used to fall asleep while sitting, then he would perform prayer and would not perform ablution.
