It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'minin Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ghusl due to janabah, he would first wash both hands, then perform wudu as is done for prayer, then insert his fingers into the water and run his fingers through the roots of his hair, then pour three handfuls of water over his head with both hands, and then pour water over his entire body.
