It is narrated from Sulayman bin Yasar that Habar bin Aswad came on the Day of Sacrifice while Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was slaughtering his sacrificial animal, and he said: O Commander of the Faithful! We made a mistake in counting the dates; we thought today was the Day of Arafah (i.e., the ninth day). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Go to Makkah, you and your companions, and all perform Tawaf. If any of you has a sacrificial animal with him, then slaughter it, then shave your heads or shorten your hair, and return to your homeland. Next year, come and perform Hajj and offer a sacrificial animal. Whoever does not find a sacrificial animal should fast three days during the days of Hajj and seven days when he returns.
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Whoever performed Qiran, then did not attain Hajj, should perform Qiran again the following year, and offer two sacrificial animals: one for Qiran and one for missing the Hajj.
