It is narrated from Hazrat Nafi that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) urinated in the market, then performed ablution and washed his face and hands, and wiped over his head. Then he was called for the funeral prayer. When he had gone to the mosque, he wiped over his socks, then performed the funeral prayer.

Explanation & Benefits
Hafiz Abu Samee'ah
Benefit: The Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid Nabawi) was very close to the marketplace; it is possible that Ibn Umar radi Allahu anhuma forgot to wipe (masah) over his footwear or, due to some excuse, was unable to bend down, and thus he performed the wiping after entering the mosque. In any case, according to Imam Ahmad rahimahullah, Imam Malik rahimahullah, and the Ahl al-Hadith, «موالاة»—that is, washing and wiping the limbs of ablution (wudu) in succession—is obligatory, and it is not permissible to delay the wiping, because this «موالاة» is established from the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. It should be noted that, according to Imam Malik rahimahullah, if a person forgets, then the requirement of succession (muwalat) is waived. Muwalat means that, during the washing or wiping of the limbs of ablution, there should not be such a long interval that the previously washed limbs become dry.
