بَابُ زَكَاةِ الْعُرُوضِZakat on merchandise
Hadith 669B3
قَالَ مَالِك : وَمَا كَانَ مِنْ مَالٍ عِنْدَ رَجُلٍ يُدِيرُهُ لِلتِّجَارَةِ وَلَا يَنِضُّ لِصَاحِبِهِ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ تَجِبُ عَلَيْهِ فِيهِ الزَّكَاةُ ، فَإِنَّهُ يَجْعَلُ لَهُ شَهْرًا مِنَ السَّنَةِ يُقَوِّمُ فِيهِ مَا كَانَ عِنْدَهُ مِنْ عَرْضٍ لِلتِّجَارَةِ ، وَيُحْصِي فِيهِ مَا كَانَ عِنْدَهُ مِنْ نَقْدٍ أَوْ عَيْنٍ فَإِذَا بَلَغَ ذَلِكَ كُلُّهُ مَا تَجِبُ فِيهِ الزَّكَاةُ ، فَإِنَّهُ يُزَكِّيهِ
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: If a trader possesses merchandise but does not have enough cash accumulated for zakat to be obligatory, then within one month of the year, the value of the goods and the cash will be combined and considered. If it reaches the amount of nisab, then zakat will be obligatory on it.
