Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: What I know is that nothing should be taken from the wealth extracted from mines until its value reaches twenty dinars or two hundred dirhams. However, when this amount is reached, zakat should be taken from it, and if it is more than this, zakat should be taken according to its amount as long as income from the mine continues. And when the income stops and then starts again, zakat will also start again just as it was taken from the previous income.
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Work is like agriculture; just as when wealth is produced from agriculture, zakat is taken, similarly, when wealth is extracted from a mine, zakat is taken. The passing of a year is not necessary.
It is narrated from several people that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, allotted to Sayyiduna Bilal bin Harith Muzani, may Allah be pleased with him, the mines of Qabliyyah which are towards Far‘. So, nothing has been taken from those mines till today except zakat.
