It is narrated from some of the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered the people not to fast during travel in the year Makkah was conquered. He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "So that you may remain strong in facing the enemy." And the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, himself kept the fast. Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman said: The Companion who narrated this hadith to me told me that I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, at ‘Arj, and water was being poured over his head because of thirst or because of the heat. Then it was said to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that some people have also kept the fast because you are fasting, so when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, reached Kudayd, he called for a bowl of water and drank it, then the people also broke their fast.
