بَابُ جَامِعِ الْجَنَائِزِComprehensive Chapter on Funerals
Hadith 573
وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ حَلْحَلَةَ الدِّيلِيِّ ، عَنْ مَعْبَدِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ بْنِ رِبْعِيٍّ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُحَدِّثُ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُرَّ عَلَيْهِ بِجَنَازَةٍ ، فَقَالَ : " مُسْتَرِيحٌ وَمُسْتَرَاحٌ مِنْهُ " ، قَالُوا : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا الْمُسْتَرِيحُ وَالْمُسْتَرَاحُ مِنْهُ ؟ قَالَ : " الْعَبْدُ الْمُؤْمِنُ يَسْتَرِيحُ مِنْ نَصَبِ الدُّنْيَا وَأَذَاهَا إِلَى رَحْمَةِ اللَّهِ ، وَالْعَبْدُ الْفَاجِرُ يَسْتَرِيحُ مِنْهُ الْعِبَادُ وَالْبِلَادُ وَالشَّجَرُ وَالدَّوَابُّ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a funeral passed by the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so he said: "Either the relieved one or the one others are relieved from." The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked: Who is the relieved one and who is the one others are relieved from? He said: "The believing servant is the relieved one, meaning when he dies, he is freed from the hardships and pains of the world and finds comfort in the mercy of Allah Almighty. And the disobedient servant is the one others are relieved from; when he dies, people, towns, trees, and animals find relief from him."
