بَابُ جَامِعِ الْجَنَائِزِComprehensive Chapter on Funerals
Hadith 570
وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنْ الْأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ : قَالَ رَجُلٌ لَمْ يَعْمَلْ حَسَنَةً قَطُّ لِأَهْلِهِ إِذَا مَاتَ فَحَرِّقُوهُ ثُمَّ أَذْرُوا نِصْفَهُ فِي الْبَرِّ وَنِصْفَهُ فِي الْبَحْرِ ، فَوَاللَّهِ لَئِنْ قَدَرَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ لَيُعَذِّبَنَّهُ عَذَابًا لَا يُعَذِّبُهُ أَحَدًا مِنَ الْعَالَمِينَ ، فَلَمَّا مَاتَ الرَّجُلُ فَعَلُوا مَا أَمَرَهُمْ بِهِ ، فَأَمَرَ اللَّهُ الْبَرَّ فَجَمَعَ مَا فِيهِ ، وَأَمَرَ الْبَحْرَ فَجَمَعَ مَا فِيهِ ، ثُمَّ قَالَ : " لِمَ فَعَلْتَ هَذَا ؟ " ، قَالَ : مِنْ خَشْيَتِكَ يَا رَبِّ وَأَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ : فَغَفَرَ لَهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There was a man who had never done any good deed. When he was about to die, he said to his people: After I die, burn me and divide my ashes into two parts—scatter one part on land and the other part in the river. This is because if Allah the Exalted finds me, He will punish me with such a punishment as He has never inflicted on anyone in the whole world. When he died, his people did as he had instructed. Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, commanded the land and it gathered all the ashes, then He commanded the river and it gathered them as well. After that, Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, asked: 'Why did you do this?' He replied: Out of fear of You, O Lord! And You know best. So Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, forgave him."
