بَابُ النَّهْيِ عَنِ الْبُكَاءِ عَلَى الْمَيِّتِChapter on Prohibition of Weeping Over the Deceased
Hadith 555
وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَمْرَةَ بِنْتِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَنَّهَا أَخْبَرَتْهُ ، أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتْ عَائِشَةَ أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ تَقُولُ : وَذُكِرَ لَهَا أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ ، يَقُولُ : إِنَّ الْمَيِّتَ لَيُعَذَّبُ بِبُكَاءِ الْحَيِّ . فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : يَغْفِرُ اللَّهُ لِأَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَمَا إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَكْذِبْ وَلَكِنَّهُ نَسِيَ أَوْ أَخْطَأَ ، إِنَّمَا مَرّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِيَهُودِيَّةٍ يَبْكِي عَلَيْهَا أَهْلُهَا ، فَقَالَ : " إِنَّكُمْ لَتَبْكُونَ عَلَيْهَا ، وَإِنَّهَا لَتُعَذَّبُ فِي قَبْرِهَا "
It is narrated from Hazrat Amrah bint Abdur Rahman that she heard from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) when it was mentioned before her that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: The dead is punished because of the weeping of the living. So Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: May Allah forgive Abu Abdur Rahman, he did not lie, but he forgot or made a mistake. The real matter is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a Jewish woman who had died and people were weeping over her, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These people are weeping over her, and she is being punished in the grave."
