It is narrated from Abdullah bin Dinar that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, wrote a pledge of allegiance to Abdul Malik bin Marwan with the following content: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Peace be upon you, O Abdul Malik bin Marwan, the servant of Allah, who is the ruler of the Muslims. I praise Allah, besides whom there is no true deity, and I acknowledge to listen to you and obey you according to the command of Allah, the Glorious and Majestic, and according to the Sunnah of His Messenger, peace and blessings be upon him, as far as I am able.
