بَابُ الْقِرَاءَةِ فِي الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِRecitation in Maghrib and Isha
Hadith 171

وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ مَوْلَى سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ ، عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ نُسَيٍّ ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الصُّنَابِحِيِّ ، قَالَ : " قَدِمْتُ الْمَدِينَةَ فِي خِلَافَةِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ فَصَلَّيْتُ وَرَاءَهُ الْمَغْرِبَ فَقَرَأَ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ الْأُولَيَيْنِ بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ ، وَسُورَةٍ سُورَةٍ مِنْ قِصَارِ الْمُفَصَّلِ ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ فَدَنَوْتُ مِنْهُ حَتَّى إِنَّ ثِيَابِي لَتَكَادُ أَنْ تَمَسَّ ثِيَابَهُ . فَسَمِعْتُهُ قَرَأَ بِأُمِّ الْقُرْآنِ وَبِهَذِهِ الْآيَةِ رَبَّنَا لا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ سورة آل عمران آية 8 "
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Abdullah Sanabahi that I came to Madinah when Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was the Caliph. I performed the Maghrib prayer behind him, and in the first two rak‘ahs he recited Surah Al-Fatihah and from the short surahs of the Mufassal. Then when he stood up for the third rak‘ah, I moved closer to him, so much so that my clothes were about to touch his clothes. Then I heard him recite Surah Al-Fatihah and this verse «﴿رَبَّنَا لاَ تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ﴾».
