Hadith 17

Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, says that it reached him from Sayyiduna Abu Huraira, may Allah be pleased with him, who used to say: Whoever has caught the bowing (ruku‘) has caught the prostration (sajda), meaning he has caught the rak‘ah, and whoever did not get to recite Surah Al-Fatihah, much good has passed him by.

Benefit:

This narration is weak due to being disconnected (munqati‘). Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has transmitted this fatwa of Abu Hurairah radi Allahu anhu in his treatise «

“When you catch up with the people while they are in the state of bowing (ruku‘), then (even so) that unit (rak‘ah) will not be counted.”

Imam Bukhari rahimahullah also writes in this treatise that all those who hold the obligation of reciting (the Qur’an) behind the imam have this same position, and Imam Ibn Khuzaymah rahimahullah and Imam Taqi al-Din al-Subki rahimahullah have also adopted this view,
