بَابُ مَنْ أَدْرَكَ رَكْعَةً مِنَ الصَّلاَةِChapter on one who catches a rak‘ah of the prayer
Hadith 15
اُردوEn
وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ وَحَدَّثَنِي ، عَنْ مَالِك ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ، كَانَ يَقُولُ : " إِذَا فَاتَتْكَ الرَّكْعَةُ فَقَدْ فَاتَتْكَ السَّجْدَةُ "
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said: When your bowing (ruku) is made up, your prostration (sajdah) is also made up.

Benefit:
That is, if one did not join the bowing (ruku') with the imam, then even if one joins in the prostration (sujud) afterwards, that prostration will also not be counted, and you will have to repeat that unit (rak‘ah). However, if you joined the imam in the bowing (ruku'), then that unit (rak‘ah) will be counted. Regarding this, various legal verdicts (fatawa) from the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) have been narrated: some count the unit (rak‘ah), and some do not count it. And if the ahadith of Mustafa (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) are considered, then in their light, there is no unit (rak‘ah) without Surah al-Fatihah. [والله اعلم]
