Hadith 1474

It is narrated from Yahya bin Saeed that Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote to Sayyiduna Salman Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him) to come to the sacred land. Sayyiduna Salman Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him) replied in writing that the land does not make anyone sacred, rather a person is sanctified by his deeds (wherever he may be), and I have heard that you have become a physician and treat people. If you cure people with medicine, that is good, but if you do not know medicine, then you have become a physician without reason. Beware, lest you kill someone and end up in Hell. Then, whenever Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) would decide between two people, and they would begin to leave, he would call them back and say: Tell your story again, for by Allah! I do not know medicine, I am just treating as best I can.
