بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي ثَمَنِ الْكَلْبِWhat is Reported Regarding the Price of a Dog
Hadith 1369

َدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى، عَنْ مَالِك، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ " نَهَى عَنْ ثَمَنِ الْكَلْبِ وَمَهْرِ الْبَغِيِّ وَحُلْوَانِ الْكَاهِنِ " . يَعْنِي بِمَهْرِ الْبَغِيِّ : مَا تُعْطَاهُ الْمَرْأَةُ عَلَى الزِّنَا . وَحُلْوَانُ الْكَاهِنِ : رَشْوَتُهُ وَمَا يُعْطَى عَلَى أَنْ يَتَكَهَّنَ .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mas'ud Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade taking the price of a dog, the earnings of a prostitute, and the earnings of a soothsayer.
Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) said: In my view, the price of every dog is disliked, whether it is a hunting dog or not, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has absolutely forbidden the price of a dog.

قَالَ مَالِك : أَكْرَهُ ثَمَنَ الْكَلْبِ الضَّارِي وَغَيْرِ الضَّارِي لِنَهْيِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ثَمَنِ الْكَلْبِ
Malik said: I dislike the price of the vicious dog and the non-vicious dog, because the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade the price of the dog.
