بَابُ الْحُكْرَةِ وَالتَّرَبُّصِChapter on Hoarding and Waiting in Trade
Hadith 1358
حَدَّثَنِي حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى، عَنْ مَالِك أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهُ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، قَالَ : " لَا حُكْرَةَ فِي سُوقِنَا، لَا يَعْمِدُ رِجَالٌ بِأَيْدِيهِمْ فُضُولٌ مِنْ أَذْهَابٍ إِلَى رِزْقٍ مِنْ رِزْقِ اللَّهِ نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِنَا فَيَحْتَكِرُونَهُ عَلَيْنَا، وَلَكِنْ أَيُّمَا جَالِبٍ جَلَبَ عَلَى عَمُودِ كَبِدِهِ فِي الشِّتَاءِ وَالصَّيْفِ، فَذَلِكَ ضَيْفُ عُمَرَ، فَلْيَبِعْ كَيْفَ شَاءَ اللَّهُ، وَلْيُمْسِكْ كَيْفَ شَاءَ اللَّهُ "
It reached Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, that Sayyiduna Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, said: No one should hoard in our market. Those who have more money than they need should not buy up any one grain that comes into our land and hoard it. And whoever brings grain into our land with effort, whether in summer or winter, he is a guest of Umar; he may sell as Allah wills, and he may keep as Allah wills.
