A written message came to Sayyiduna Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man said to his wife: «حَبْلُكِعَلَىغَارِبِكِ». Sayyiduna Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote: Tell this man to meet me in Makkah during the Hajj season. Sayyiduna Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) was performing Tawaf of the Ka'bah when a man met him and greeted him with salam. He asked: Who are you? He replied: I am the one whom you instructed to meet you in Makkah. Sayyiduna Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I swear by the Lord of this House, what did you mean by «حَبْلُكِعَلَىغَارِبِكِ»? He replied: O Commander of the Faithful! If you had made me swear anywhere else, I would not have told the truth, but now I will tell the truth: my intention was to leave her. Sayyiduna Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It will be as you intended.
