Hadith 1073

وحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ وحَدَّثَنِي، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عُمَرَ " لَمْ يَكُنْ يُضَحِّي عَمَّا فِي بَطْنِ الْمَرْأَةِ " .
It is narrated from Nafi‘ that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) would not offer a sacrifice on behalf of a fetus in the womb.
قَالَ مَالِكٌ : الضَحِيَّةُ سُنَّةٌ وَلَيْسَتْ بِوَاجِبَةٍ . وَلا أُحِبُّ لأَحَدٍ مِمَّنْ قَوِيَ عَلَى ثَمَنِهَا، أَنْ يَتْرُكَهَا
Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Sacrifice is Sunnah, not obligatory. And it is not good for a person who can afford to buy a sacrifice to abandon it.
