Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: What I have heard best in this chapter is that a man should slaughter a camel, cow, or goat that he owns on behalf of himself and his household, and include all people in the reward. However, the situation where a man buys a camel, cow, or goat and several people share in the sacrifice—meaning he takes a portion of the price from each and gives meat accordingly—is disliked. We have heard that partnership in sacrifice is not permissible; rather, one sacrifice can be made on behalf of the people of a household.
It is narrated from Hazrat Amarah bin Sayyad that Ata bin Yasar informed him, having heard from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him), who used to say: We used to offer one goat as sacrifice on behalf of ourselves and all our household, but later, considering it a matter of pride, people started offering one goat for each individual.
